Half a month — the bright pakṣa as the moon fills, the dark pakṣa as it empties. The bright is the pitṛs’ day, the dark their night. Each tithi is 12° the moon gains on the sun, so 15 tithis = 180° = half a lunar month. A tithi is not a fixed day — it runs ~22–26 hours, which is why tithis are sometimes skipped or repeated.
